"A team is only as safe as the least safe person" by Tom Geraghty.
A team's psychological safety is determined by the least safe member, rather than the average safety level. Averages and metrics can obscure the experiences of individuals who feel unsafe, particularly those marginalized within the team or in society.
Psychological safety is a collective effort, and we’re all responsible for doing so, recognizing power imbalances that contribute to feelings of unsafety, particularly among marginalized individuals.
Tom argues that teams should focus on individual experiences, address power differentials, and implement inclusive practices that encourage open dialogue and support for all members.
