Why unproductive meetings persist? We don’t “have to”, but we accept them like the circus elephant who was chained when it was a baby, and has learned the hopelessness, out of habit and fear.
Kate encourages us to get back our time: we can decline if the same information is available elsewhere, propose alternatives (join fewer or delegate), and have conversations to combine or cut meetings. And I’d add that we can also ask to record the meeting and then check the notes later 😉
We are much more in control than we think.
