How do you ask good questions? The next big breakthrough will be AI learning on the job. Aspiring leaders, don’t just network up.
One “must” for this week: How do you ask good questions?
A few specific tips on asking better questions. My favorites:
Highly specific questions are better on average.
It is often better to preface a question with a confession of some sort, or with information from yourself. That sets a standard for the respondent. Set that standard high!
Demonstrate credibly that you are truly listening and that you care about the answer.
With any possible question, ask yourself in advance: can the person being asked the question respond too easily in a vague and not very useful way?

Asking better questions is such an incredible skill. Especially in AI age because discernment is crucial. One tip I learned about asking better questions is starting with how and what instead of why — as it can feel accusatory and challenging (for ourselves, and others.)

What an excellent point Roberto! It echos what I hear from some of my coachees and what I am learning with my AI account: I am learning to ask better questions. To suggest options and directions to explore ... and these changes are deeper mindset shifts than I realized at first. Thank you Robert once again for the excellent content.
